Week 10

During the celebration of the University Fest in

English we had the opportunity to enjoy the talent of the group ESCATS, according to the comments I heard it was very good. The national band has a great career and is one of the most important groups in the country. Although I could not attend the activity I've only heard positive comments which show that it was of high quality presentation.

We support the national talent.

Unit 7

Super Size Me
This documentary reflects as in many countries fast food places are big business, but also shows how this type of food harms people by the amount of calories of these foods. In these times of fast food it has become indispensable for people who seek comfort in their homes or simply do not like healthy food preparation, they end up in places that are a current trend, without considering that the consequences are irreversible.

One of the reasons why these places are visited is because the low prices, big size and flavor which proves to be attractive to people. However, these foods are high in fat, salt and calories and they can cause excess weight, high cholesterol, diabetes or heart disease. If people think a little or report the damage they could help to stop the impact that fast food represents. Therefore it is efforts of each person change the eating habits for a better quality of life.

Unit 9

Staying Healthy

Many people worldwide are overweight it by bad eating habits developed during their lives, some negative factors which can´t be controlled are age, family history, gender, social influences are so many diets and perform operations. But changing bad habits and have an active life doing activities like walking, running or just clean the house or working in the garden are activities that require effort and help physically.

It is the responsibility of the person eating the fat-free foods which becomes a big problem for the lack of usual, just making changes can prevent diseases that we can eventually cause irreversible consequences.

Unit 8

Go to see the Ice Hotel:

The Ice Hotel is really popular with travelers from all over the world. This is reconstructed every year, and is dependent upon constant sub-freezing temperatures during construction and operation. The walls, fixtures, and fittings are made entirely of ice.

The Ice Hotel is promoted by their sponsors and has special features for travelers who are interested in novelties and unusual environments, and thus are in the class of destination hotels. Their lobbies are often filled with ice sculptures.

This hotel only open in the winter because it’s made of ice and snow, the visitors can enjoy cold-weather activities such as cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, dog sledding and too visit theater and small church where people get married without planning.

The video games on Costa Rica society

Addiction or hobby for people?

The phenomenon of video games has grown rapidly over the years thanks to this new technology. It is said that today, for many people this kind of distractions become addictive patterns of overuse and the hours that young people spend on these games.
We often see our children as they spend hours with these games that in some cases are aggressive and show violence or uncontrolled behavior. It has been mentioned in several psychological studies like these games alter the behavior of young people making them more prone to aggression.

But on the other side are those who take as a hobby and has concluded that this kind of games improves relations between players. And it creates different skills as they apply skills, effort and participation in each game by creating a sense of social relationship.

The idea of this review is to give a perspective for Costa Ricans who use this type of game and see the positive and negative of them. This knowledge and responsibility every person leaving to form an addiction or just be a hobby. The decision is theirs!!!

Rules of etiquette encompass most aspects of social interaction in any society, though the term itself is not commonly used. A rule of etiquette may reflect an underlying ethical code, or it may reflect a person's fashion or status.

Fracture is a movie which shows a man blinded by jealousy and rage committed a crime against his wife for having been unfaithful, this man does everything possible to not leave any trace evidence incriminating him.

During the movie shows the cunning of the murderer, which is facing a juice a lawyer with an unblemished career. The lawyer thinks it's another trial and takes it easy with confidence; but he has no idea at all what will happen to touch. This plot is full of skill, intelligence and arrogance. The lawyer wants justice and seeks by all means the truth. But has not the necessary evidence which leaves leaving the murderer free.

When the situation ends so badly, evidence eventually shows the truth of what happened. So again take this man to court to be tried again.

The Innovation Week

Innovation Week

During the innovation week we had the opportunity to assist to a different kind of activities related to innovation. This was interesting for me especially the speech about “Intelligent Architecture” performed by Bruno Stagno. He explained how to save energy without the need of air conditioning in buildings. He proposes a technique to use buildings with ambient natural plants placed in front of windows, which provide fresh air and shadow. So the buildings won’t need artificial air, which create substantial saving for companies and pollute less.

I am interested in the different construction techniques which are innovative, artistic and are made with not expensive materials and come to create great woks.

This week there was also several companies participating such as Panda, Master Lex, i- Interact but the most important for me was 3M. This company impressed me by their great technology and services in different areas such as building, automaker, health cure, home and office. I could find out some of this organization that provides innovation solutions to customer needs, for me to study occupational health is important to know about this company which is one that provides safety equipment and everything related to other areas in which I hope to work.

Innovation week was a great experience; I thought me as with small ideas to make changes which contribute to the environment and people innovating daily.

Unit 4: Innocent or Guilty?

Dear President Laura Chinchilla:

This letter is to tell that many people have gone to prison for crimes they didn´t commit, this happen for mistake of eyewitnesses, they are people who saw the crime but they can be wrong, because the confusion of the moment or persuasion by the police.

These people try to find a solution not pay for something that did not occurred and so they hire a lawyer to prove his innocence. Because of a mistaken identity that could mean life in prison.
Lawyers use evidence to try to show that people are innocent and seek evidence for correcting the error. In some cases the police are known to destroy important evidence that can save a person. The police misconduct lead to a large number of victims who are innocent, and wounds to take years arrested.

For this as citizens of Costa Rica please get a better management on security and the police for this doesn´t continue committing these errors with the innocent and punish the guilty.

Why save?

Many people save during their life for have monetary capital. Special use it on their ancient life.

Also is convenient use credit cards and use it only when is necessary. Other tip is saving money on an account at a bank. It´s difficult don´t spend money fast. But we need to think in our future. Other way is bartering, an interesting kind to trading things for another without using money.

Some people think save money is bad idea; because we need to life a day like it was the last. But someone else thinks save is an intelligent form life. So is a personal decision if we want to save money.

Unit 2: Building a Better Community

Building a Better Community

Some people live in suburbs and small towns. They are organizing into groups which join, participate and empathize with people who need help because they lack the necessary resources to succeed.

Many communities are designed with recreation places and do some culture activities to unite people. Moreover they are working in the participation of the people to clean up rivers, planting trees and recycle programs to health the environment.

These groups are created based on some rules such as respect, consideration and solidarity with each other to live in place of peace. But not everything is good, because often occur violent situations by family problems, lack of communication and money problems, which lead people to do crazy things they can not handle.

Therefore it is appropriate that they seek help and for that support groups are found in communities who listen, inform and provide alternatives to reduce the problems.

Unit 1: Offbeat Jobs

“Barista”

A “Barista” is a person that usually also a coffee house employee, who prepares and serves espresso based on coffee drinks. This person should be able to distinguish the types of coffee blends to achieve and highlight the characteristics of coffee. There are espresso machines that make coffee preparations easier and the “Baristas” use these machines when they are in a competition.
In several countries there are associations dedicated to promoting and improving the quality of this product which is very appreciated by people.
The “Baristas” have the idea of promoting the consumption of good coffee especially the young market because for older people is very difficult to change the habits of drinking coffee with different flavors.

My name is Sandy Mejía, I live in Guapiles, I am 20 years old, I consider myself happy and absent – miended person. The relationship with my family is an important part of my life. I relate very much to my mom and my sister because with then I can speak, relax and spend happy moments.
The relation with my friends is very important to me, when I am with they I enjoy to much their company and we spend agreeable moments. Some of important experiences in my life have been the birth of my nephew, the firts day of university and the vacations in the beach with my family (we were Manzanillo).
I love to dance, to listen to music, to see T.V. and walk. I like that the people around me are sincere, friendly and intelligent.
This is my second year of university.
